„We are a group of artists from China who have received our art education in German cities of Berlin, Kassel, Bremen, Karlsruhe, and finally all met in Berlin. We deeply love our life in Berlin. As Chinese contemporary painting artists who have lived in Berlin for a long time, our different personal and professional development experiences in Europe have contributed to OUR WAY OF understanding of contemporary art. Our long-term education and life in Germany also have a great impact on us, so that each artist’s perspective on painting is different from that of Chinese artists in China and other German artists. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our lives and our work, but it has also reinforced our belief in the power of coming together, so we hope to have more and better channels and platforms to show our art.
In this project, we hope to display our paintings in the form of group exhibition, focusing on the current situation of Chinese contemporary artists in Berlin, and returning to the most fundamental approach in the art medium – painting and Drawing. This is the most basic thing we can do in the midst of the threat of epidemic and war. This could be as a way to break down cultural barriers and build new communities of different ethnic groups, nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
The war between Russia and Ukraine makes us realize that the world is still turbulent and full of uncertainty, which drives us to understand more urgently that people from different cultural backgrounds need more communication. As artists, our way of communication is abstract yet frank. Our works are our most honest thinking, and the exhibition is naturally our most direct communication way and appeal. Art should be simple and diverse. We are not here to convey Chinese culture, but to show the living conditions of a class of people.“
